ON A SERIOUS NOTE
I was originally going to use the title Conformists Piss Me Off, but I didn't want to be rude.
Then again...
Then again...
(For my friend who shares the same peeve as me.)
We currently live in a world where the perceptions and ideals of society matters. Agree to disagree, but this is the general truth. Our parents tell us to "be yourself", but we all know that ends when you reach the sixth grade. Friends accept you for who you are, but end up leaving you all alone. In our world today, it's so difficult to grow up. Our older members of society wont undestand that we need technology now, because it is our current way of life. Unlike the next generation, we would be more understanding since we started the Era of Technology Abundance and, well, Dependance. In our case, we are sort of on our own, trying to grow up in a place where we have no idea where to stand in the midst of a society with many (and confusing) beliefs.
I recently read an article from Teen Vogue (May 2014), targeting the issue on anorexia, thigh gap and bikini bridge photos, and loving your body. The point was, thigh gaps aren't beautiful- and now teens absolutely agree. But what message does this send to the girls who are thin and do have thigh gaps? That they're gross for being that way? Around this time last year, thigh gaps were the rage. It was sexy and appealing. Now, it's seen as a disorder. This is a perfect example of how much of a conformist humanity is. Just because a magazine says so doesn't mean we all have to jump on the wagon and join the hate. The virtues we learn from growing up must remain intact, especially when the Internet is infested with so many influential articles, videos and arguments.
Speaking of virtues, let's talk about religion. Being a Roman Catholic, I personally have a certain dislike to people who act "overly- Catholic" because it sends the wrong message to other people and their religions. An example is the issue on gay rights. There are so many judgements and prejudices against gays, especially from Catholics, that it disappoints me. Instead of putting to practice the virtues taught to us like understanding and "do not judge", we tell them what is right from wrong. Another example are people who don't read The Bible or pray ritually are not as Catholic. What does that even mean? I'm not bashing my religion, I actually love Catholicism. I just noticed that in the recent years there is so much posting about how people love our Lord, but do not actually imbibe his teachings and just follow whatever their neighbourhood church-lady says.
So, what do I have against the (ever so many) conformists of the world? I honestly think it leads to ignorance. If people would keep flowing with whatever is "right" and influential at the moment, they'd have no real opinions to offer. If the president, his party and his followers on twitter claimed bleach tasted amazing would you tweet that too? Maybe even try it? Or what if Bethany Mota said wearing bikinis to the mall is her new obsession, would you agree too? You see, this is what's happening to people right now, specifically those on my age bracket. We tend to jump into what's "in" to prove something.
I'm just really sick of people following our society's opinions. I only have one piece of advice: don't. Stick to your perceptions, until someone convinces you otherwise. I honestly think that debating about strawberries or bananas being the best fruit ever is a more interesting conversation that agreeing about strawberries being our fave. I'm sick of hypocrites saying they believe in kindness, in God, in me. They usually never do. Those who show and prove themselves are the true believers and doers. And I'm always inspired by those kind of people because they have their own faith in something and they own it because it's theirs. So don't be afraid to stick out and own your thoughts.

Great, now I have a disorder?! Loljk
